Isolation and Identification of Antibacterial Compound from the leaves of Muehlenbeckia platyclada Meissn

Abstract


Separation of the leaves extracts of Muehlenbeckia platyclada Meissn based on in vitro antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 resulted in the isolation of a flavonol glycoside. The aglycone was identified as quercetin based on UV, IR, NMR and mass spectral studies.
