Abstract

Chlamydia trachomatis infections are serious women problem in India and there is limited information on serological detection assays in India. Therefore there is need for a simple and reliable serological diagnostic assay for detection of C. trachomatis antibody in human sera. In present study, we developed serological dot blot assay for detection of chlamydial infections in Indian women that has ability to detect serum immunoglobulin G antibodies against 40KDa MOMP antigen of C. trachomatis. Overall 80 women patients suspected for C. trachomatis infections and 10 healthy controls were included in the study. Detection of C. trachomatis infection in human sera by cell culture method, direct fluorescence assay and dot blot assay was 45.00%, 41.50% and 42.50%, respectively. Test characteristics of dot blot assay were calculated as compare to cell culture and DFA (Microtrack, San Jose, CA, USA) and It seems to be a good alternative to the cell culture and DFA. It has relative specificity and sensitivity and is easier to perform in field and laboratories for epidemiological screening and research purpose.
